What is UKCA Marking?

Posted on November 16th, 2021

Walker Filtration are currently working towards obtaining UKCA mark approval on all relevant products that are currently covered by the Pressure Equipment Directive and CE marked. Approvals will be in place before 1st January 2023.

What is UKCA Marking?

The UKCA mark is the new UK product marking that will be required for certain products being placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Wales, and Scotland). It covers most products that previously required the CE mark, such as pressure equipment. However, any existing stock already on the market before the 1st January 2021 will not need to be UKCA marked.

UKCA will not be recognised in the EU market, products that require CE marking will still need CE marking to be sold in the European Union. You can read more about PED and CE marks in our blog article: What is Pressure Equipment Directive and CE marks.

The UKCA mark came into force on 1st January 2021. However, the final deadline for manufacturers to comply is 31st December 2022. From the 1st January 2023 only products with UKCA marking will be accepted in Great Britain.

The Approval Process

The manufacturer bears sole responsibility for declaring conformity with all requirements. UKCA applies to most goods previously subject to CE marking. To be eligible you must meet essential technical requirements and the conformity assessment. These requirements are largely the same as they are for CE marking therefore, if you were able to self-declare for CE marking you will be able to do the same for UKCA marking.
